OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) is health insurance for international students that they may need while studying in Australia.
Do I have to take OSHC?
Yes. DIBP (The Department of Immigration and Citizenship) requires students to maintain it for the duration of student visa (except Belgian, Norwegian and some Swedish students).
How long do I need to take?
You need to start OSHC from the date your expected arrival date to Australia until your student visa ends. Normal student visa duration will be;
1) If your study is English or duration is under 10 months then 1 month after the end date of your COE.
2) Course if over 10 months and if your study finish in November or December then March 15 the following year. If your study finishes at any other time then 2 months after the end date of your COE.
3) If you are a PhD student then 8 months after the end date of your COE.
You can choose from following insurers and the average cost of minimum cover is $437 for singles cover, $1222 for couples cover, $1744 for single-parents cover and $2022 for family cover over 12 months.
